A fun little canoe trip
A little over a year ago, a good friend invited me on a canoe-camping trip at a fantasy-like spring-fed river in southern Missouri. Our campsite was other-worldly.
Old mill wheel from a spring-water-powered mill.
I find the image of this massive tool of industry completely overpowered by nature a comforting meditation on the smallness of my existence and the ultimate value of all human enterprise. Getting a little perspective on that has done wonders for my soul on numerous occasions. The illusion of limitless potential is a false claim that needs rebuttal from time to time, not least in my own heart.
